) Theresa Emberly lives and works in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She was born and raised in NS, and graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts; Saint Mary's University with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology); and Acadia University with a Master of Education (Counselling). In 2004 Theresa resigned from her position as a Professional Counsellor to paint. She works in oil on canvas, and uses painting knives for the majority of her pieces. Currently Theresa works in encaustic (wax & oil), and carves into these paintings with sculpting tools. This evolution of her work is reflective of the texture and mood of her oil paintings and is reminiscent of her sculptural roots. Theresa is represented by Argyle Fine Art Gallery in Nova Scotia, Trees Gallery in Mahone Bay, and Art Sales and Rental Gallery in Halifax. Her work can be found in corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe.

Art that Nobody
Asked for
(back
to top)
Before
the nineteenth century, artists did not have a choice in the subject
matter of their art. Painters in particular, were commissioned to do portraits
that would reflect the wealth and/or status of monarchy or religious
leaders. The
business name ‘Art that Nobody Asked for’ is rooted in art history
and is a commentary on the freedom that I, and other artists, have in
choosing what we create. And besides, it makes me laugh! |
